Council on Aging board recruits new members
Council on Aging · Meeting of May 1, 2026
Walpole's Council on Aging held a recruitment session disclosing a $50,000 anonymous donation and a lingering parking shortage. Chair Janet Fasanello and Director Kerri McManama described the nine-member board's advisory role, while Treasurer Sandhya Malur urged attendees to "follow the money" to understand town spending. Associate Member Marcia St.
Louis recounted the agency's founding at the April 28, 1969 town meeting under first president Olga Hurley, through the current building's January 2019 opening. Board members said 93 volunteers logged more than 6,500 hours in 2025 serving 2,064 unique participants, with average daily attendance now around 233. McManama said a downtown lot renovation should add about 60 parking spaces but acknowledged "we can't just make any spot a handicapped spot" given sidewalk-access requirements.
A town property tax volunteer rebate program was expanded from 30 to 40 slots.
