Water board votes to fight dissolution petition
Other Committee · Meeting of April 6, 2026
Walpole's Sewer and Water Commission votes 4-1 to prepare for possible litigation over a petition seeking to dissolve it. Commissioners said the measure was filed by two Finance Committee members who argued against the board at a public hearing without stepping down from their own seats, calling it not "cricket." The board separately voted 3-2 to charge high-volume sewer users a new one-to-one inflow-and-infiltration fee and 4-0-1 to ask the Select Board to appeal a state Housing Appeals Committee ruling clearing a 28-unit 40B project near a town well field. A rate increase passed earlier by just two commissioners was reconsidered, with a public rate hearing now set for June 8 pending the board's survival of a May 4 Town Meeting vote.
Water revenue stood at $6.283 million against a $6.506 million budget as of March 31.
