Walpole panel OKs $100K order on school project
Other Committee · Meeting of September 15, 2026
Walpole's Permanent Building Committee approved a $100,463 change order and a $1,871,658.34 vendor invoice package as the Walpole High School project nears completion. Project staff told the committee contingency is projected to land at $189,727 once outstanding paperwork clears, an improvement over last month. The biggest open question is an unresolved negotiation over $2,000-a-day liquidated damages for the contractor's roughly month-late completion, which staff proposed trading against the contractor's general-conditions costs; project manager Patrick declined to detail the strategy on camera, saying "I think it'd be more comfortable not talking about negotiating strategy on camera." Architectural representative Brian Dimka said relocating greenhouse heaters away from roof vents, at a cost not to exceed $2,500, was "the most cost-effective solution." The contractor, Agostini, is 99 percent complete on its contract, with the town holding roughly $96,000 to $99,000 in retainage.
A new illuminated "W" sign for the field house remains in fabrication.
