Water board waives fee, demands budget report
Other Committee · Meeting of August 10, 2026
Walpole water board blasts Select Board's pivot from a full MWRA connection to a $5 million emergency pump station. The Board of Sewer and Water Commissioners voted 5-0-0 to demand the town's overdue fiscal year 2026 financial report and unanimously waived a $200 missed-appointment fee for a North Street Airbnb owner, with Commissioner George arguing "that's not your fault." Members said the Select Board reversed course on a long-pursued supplemental MWRA connection after a last-minute DEP letter, with consultant Weston & Sampson accused of filing "a light report." Commissioners calculated MWRA water costs .69 of a cent per gallon against Walpole's own .73 to .79, calling the proposed $5 million to $5.2 million pump station economically indefensible. The board also flagged 1,900 new meters still stuck on a 90-day billing cycle and unresolved watershed-parking risks at Jarvis Farm.
