Walpole building panel approves $106,684 change order, splits over field house sign cost. The Permanent Building Committee voted to approve Change Order 35 for $106,684 covering prior project change orders, including a disputed rooftop-unit removal item one member said should have been "common sense" without added cost. Members then split 5-1, with Jeff dissenting, to release a long-delayed illuminated "W" sign for fabrication and approve up to $17,000 for installation, on condition no work begins before Sept. 8.
The committee separately approved a $1,724,370 July vendor invoice package, with contractor Agostini reported 96.5 percent complete and about $914,000 held in retainage. One member called the sign debate "the single most discussed topic" the committee has taken up in three years. The project's remaining contingency is now projected at roughly $180,000.
