EDC Backs Tobacco License For Route 1 Gas Station
Other Committee · Meeting of March 11, 2026
Walpole's Economic Development Commission votes 7-0-1 to back a tobacco license for a proposed Route 1 gas station. Developer John, owner of Rojo Car Wash, told the commission a prospective tenant wants to build a fueling station with EV chargers, a convenience store and food service on an adjacent parcel, but needs a tobacco license the Board of Health currently won't grant under its licensing moratorium. Staff member Patrick said the parcel is zoned highway business and could host a gas station under a special permit.
Member Harry pushed to tie any endorsement strictly to "a convenience store or a gas station use," and the commission's motion conditioned support on the site remaining within Route 1 highway-business zoning. Donnell abstained. John meets with the Board of Health Tuesday, March 17.
