Water board orders emergency connection plan
Other Committee · Meeting of July 13, 2026
Walpole water board orders emergency connection plan as wells fail. The Board of Sewer and Water Commissioners voted 3-0 to direct the town administrator to pursue an emergency water connection if the system becomes unable to protect public safety, after a staff report showed the Nepponset 1 and Minebrook 5 wells had failed and the town's 10-day pumping average had dropped to 2.8 million gallons a day. The superintendent did not attend for at least the third straight meeting.
Commissioner Pradeep Mishra won 4-0 approval of a resolution declaring that no consultant correspondence or policy position is considered board-approved unless shared with all commissioners in a public packet, and ordering engineering firm Weston and Sampson to attend meetings when summoned. Commissioners also said a state review faulted Walpole's draft MWRA connection application for omitting a water-needs forecast, a drought management plan and a water-loss control plan, and voted 3-0 to keep pursuing the application rather than withdraw it.
