Water board urges denial of Darwin Lane project

Other Committee · Meeting of April 22, 2026

Walpole's water board votes 4-0 to urge denial of a Darwin Lane subdivision near town wells. The Board of Sewer and Water Commissioners, meeting April 22 at the E.J. Delaney Treatment Plant, also voted 3-1 to file notice it may rescind its fee schedule ahead of a June rate hearing.

Commissioners flagged a $2.4 million indirect-cost charge against the enterprise funds in the fiscal 2027 town budget, which totals $5.198 million for water and $6.094 million for sewer, including $5.1 million in MWRA fees. A board member said complaints alleging open meeting law and ethics violations by the Finance Committee, tied to an article that would replace the elected water board with an appointed one, have been filed with the attorney general. Commissioner Patrick said of the subdivision, "I'm urging the planning board not to approve this." Commissioner Starr said residents are confused by repeat water-meter replacement notices: "People obviously don't understand about what's happening."
